The weekend has become a symbol of the attention and appreciation for the spaces where artists work in Rotterdam. During these two days, you will get a behind-the-scenes look at the studios and experience the diversity of our city. Visit www.grootrotterdamsatelierweekend.nl for more information about the participating artists and studio complexes.

GRAW is essentially a large showcase of the artistic and creative capital in Rotterdam, but the event also highlights the challenges many artists face. Long-established studio complexes often disappear, making way for temporary solutions. This year, the GRAW collective is placing extra focus on this issue by engaging in citywide discussions with various stakeholders. Our goal is to collaboratively develop sustainable solutions that ensure enough affordable spaces for creatives, allowing them to continue contributing to Rotterdam’s unique character. Makers enliven neighborhoods, create places of wonder and inspiration, and make Rotterdam a vibrant and attractive place to live and visit.

One positive development to mention is the participating collective of makers in Overschie, B46. They recently purchased their building, creating a permanent space for over 15 creatives. Initiatives like these give hope and show that there are possibilities to collaborate on sustainable solutions. To get a better picture of the current situation of studio spaces, the Big Rotterdam Studio Survey will be conducted again this year. The insights from this survey are crucial for taking the right steps and mobilizing the necessary support for our mission.

We also need your support to ensure that Rotterdam remains a city where artists can settle. By subscribing to GRAW-news via our website and following us on social media (@grootrotterdamsatelierweekend), you can stay updated on our next steps and campaigns. You’ll also receive exclusive tips for your visit, routes, and additional programs such as workshops and performances organized by the studio complexes.

We wish all visitors an inspiring journey through the Rotterdam studios and thank all the artists and Droom en Daad for their enthusiastic cooperation and support.
